Women Who Run with the Wolves

Drama therapist Vasso Papali and visual artist Kleoni Manousaki invite us to a short-term therapeutic group inspired by Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ renowned book Women Who Run with the Wolves.

The Seal Woman: Returning to the Place of the Soul

The myth we will explore is that of The Seal Woman, whose journey begins when her seal skin is stolen, a symbolic act representing the theft and appropriation of her Soul. Deprived of this essential part of herself, she gradually begins to wither and is compelled to leave behind everything familiar in order to enter a process of initiation and transformation. For this initiation to become complete, she must remember not only her innate abilities but also her true Essence, embracing both as inseparable parts of her journey toward self-discovery.

Within this symbolic framework, the myth of the Seal Woman reflects the many ways in which we may lose the “skin” of our Soul. This can happen when the demands of everyday life overwhelm our authentic nature, for example, through relentless perfectionism, which often leads to dissatisfaction and, ultimately, inner imbalance. There are as many ways to lose one’s skin as there are women in the world. Through storytelling, visual arts, and movement, the Seal Woman invites us to reconnect with our Soul, rediscover our Essence, and return to our deepest self. She gently leads us on a magical journey of personal exploration and inner remembrance.

During this three-hour workshop, we will follow the Seal Woman’s journey and reflect on how it resonates with our own lives. Together, we will create our own symbolic “skin” and dance with it, celebrating the journey of our Soul and our profound search to reclaim what has always belonged to us.
