Faster! Higher! Stronger! Exploring Aspects of Maternal Interventions in Children’s Education

Is a child’s education truly the mother’s highest priority? Are interventions in the work of the school indeed a common, everyday maternal practice? If so, what mechanisms trigger such interventions? What are their characteristics, and how are they interpreted? When did this phenomenon first begin to be documented? Is it a feature specific to the Greek context, or does it extend across social and national boundaries?

This presentation seeks to open a discussion on issues related to intensive and “proper” motherhood, to explore how, where, and why it is practiced, and to interpret aspects of the phenomenon by situating motherhood within the broader social and political context of the present period.
